Della Alise Whetstone Cosby Carmichael passed from this life at the age of 92 on October 5, 2021. Born on March 22, 1929, she joins her late parents, Henry Mordecai Whetstone and Della Eunice Dobbins Whetstone in God’s loving embrace.
Mrs. Carmichael was known as Mama, Mema, Auntie and Alise to all her relatives and friends that loved her and whom she loved dearly. Her spirit for living life to the fullest was revered by all but her love for her savior, Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Francis Cosby, Sr. and Dr. Herbert Nall Carmichael; siblings, Henry Mordecai Whetstone, Jr., Emma Lewis Gober, David Dobbins Whetstone, Sr., William Lee Whetstone, and Mae Dobbins Dickinson.
She is survived by her sons, W.F. “Noopie” (Susan) Cosby, Jr. and Ben F. (Katherine) Cosby; grandchildren, Drayton (Johanna) Cosby, Mary Alise (Michael) Snyder, Kelli (Matt) Alfreds, Hayes (Jay) Spivey, Katherine Griffin, Benjamin Dobbins Cosby and William Browder Cosby; great grandchildren, Mary Pearson Cosby, Drayton Cosby, Jr., Hudson Cosby, Lillian Alise Snyder, Sebastian Alfreds, Rollie Alfreds and Sloane Alfreds.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at New Live Oak cemetery in Selma with Dr. Jerry Light, Sr. officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The service will be streamed live online at http://watchlawrence.live, via the funeral home’s Facebook page.
Pallbearers will be Drayton Cosby Sr., Dobbins Cosby, Will Cosby, Bernie Dickinson, Rush Dickinson, Angus Whetstone, Michael Phillip Whetstone and William Lee Whetstone.
