Algerene Oliver Denson, 86, gained her angel wings on Thursday, December 4.
Born in Sweet Water, AL, Algerene spent much of her childhood in the Thomasville area, where she and her siblings were often inseparable.
Algerene was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian and active member of her church, Shady Grove Baptist Church; she spent her church days singing hymns and teaching Sunday school. An avid reader and gardener, Algerene enjoyed reading faith books and tending to her rose bushes. She kept beautiful roses, azaleas, and irises in her large, colorful yard. It was admired and enjoyed by family at holiday gatherings. “Granny’s house” was the hub for every Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day meal and celebration. She took great pride in her role as the mother of 5 children. She never missed an important event or ballgame; she prayed over her children daily. She was the epitome of a family woman of faith. Alongside her own children, Algerene was a caregiver to many others. She cared for elderly individuals in their homes for many years. Her love for children extended into her role as a substitute teacher as well. She had a gift for making people feel loved. Those who crossed her path were infinitely blessed to have known her.
Algerene is survived by her brother Samuel Oliver, her children, Craig Denson, Kathy Cauthen, Kenny (Traci) Denson, John Denson, her daughter-in-law Tina Denson, as well as 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous other beloved friends and family members.
She is preceded in death by her son, Gaylen Denson, son-in-law Mark Cauthen, parents Lawrence and Vella Oliver, brother James Ellis Oliver, and sisters Bettye Scarbrough, Virginia Larrimore, Sue Oliver Sims, Geraldine Audrey, Barbara Dunn Green.
