Braxton LeRoy Cummings, Jr., a beloved cattleman, devoted family man, and revered pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. Born on October 11, 1942, Roy led a life deeply rooted in the land where he was born and raised, embodying the spirit of a true outdoorsman who cherished both his family and the natural world.

A 1966 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Roy dedicated his life to cattle ranching, row crop cultivation, and timber management. His work on the land was not just a profession but a profound expression of his love for the earth and the legacy he wished to leave behind. To those who knew him, Roy was nothing short of a legend—a man whose character was woven with steadfast dedication, humility, and a deep sense of purpose.

In 1964, Roy married the love of his life, embarking on a lifelong partnership filled with love and shared dreams. Together, they built a home grounded in faith and family. Roy's commitment to his faith was unwavering. For over 50 years, he was a steadfast member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Selma, serving as an Elder for more than two decades. His spiritual journey took him on mission trips across the United States and Mexico, reflecting his heart for service and compassion for others.

Roy's passions extended beyond his work and faith. He was an avid hunter, delighting in turkey, duck, and deer hunting, and found joy in fishing — whether it was fishing for crappie or yellow catfish in the Cahawba River. One of his greatest joys in later years was sharing these treasured outdoor experiences with his children and grandchildren, passing along not just skills but stories and values, ensuring the love of nature and family would endure through generations.

Above all, Roy's proudest accomplishment was his family—especially his grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours cheering at sports games or sharing quiet moments in the beauty of the outdoors. His love, wisdom, and gentle guidance carved an indelible mark on their hearts and the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Parke Keith and his cousin, Pat Cummings Kaye.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Christie Daniels Cummings; children, Candy Cummings (Lee) Nichols, Kellee Cummings (Terry) Waters, Mary Christie Cummings (Christian) Crane, Braxton LeRoy (Lauren) Cummings, III; grandchildren, Landon Lee Nichols, Brooke Christie Waters, John Braxton Hale and Braxton LeRoy Cummings, IV; siblings, Brenda Cummings Keith; brother-in-law, Bill (Becki) Daniels and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a man who loved the land, his family, and his faith with all his heart. His legacy will live on in the fields he tended, the rivers he fished, the church he served, and the countless lives he touched. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, devoted elder, passionate outdoorsman, and a true legend in every sense of the word. While his absence leaves a great void, his spirit remains alive in the memories and hearts of all who loved him.
