Bruce Peak, Jr.

April 3, 1927 — February 9, 2018

Selma lost an outstanding business and civic leader on February 9, 2018, when Bruce L. Peak, Jr age 90, died after a short illness at home.  He was born April 3, 1927 to Bruce Peak, Sr. and Frances Mulder Peak who preceded him along with his beloved wife of 69 years, Marion Dillon Peak and brother William F. Peak.

He is survived by his children, Chris B. (Cindy) Peak, Debbie (Toby) Traylor, Jere D. (Peggy) Peak and Bruce L. (Pat) Peak, III. Grandchildren:  Hardy (Tracee) Traylor, Bruce (Meredith) Traylor, Stacey (Jett) Williams, Christopher (Ashley) Peak, Drew Peak, Ellie Peak, Matthew Peak, Dillon (Kalee) Peak, Owen (Ashley) Peak, Alison (Adam) West, Bruce Peak, IV and Taylor Peak and thirteen great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Peak graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery in 1945 and attended Auburn University, where he received his degree in Industrial Engineering.  Shortly after graduation he joined the navy and served during the Korean War.

Peak moved to Selma in 1952 originally being employed with Selma All Lock.  In 1954 Peak was hired as the sales manager for Southland Mower Company.  He later served as President of Southland Mower for 16 years retiring in 1985.  He was recognized by his peers being appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry, where he served for 5 years.  His employees had great respect for him as he always showed his appreciation for their hard work and their contribution to the success of Southland Mower Company.

Peak was very active in the community serving as the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Selma United Way, Board of Directors of West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center, Board of Directors of Four Rivers Hospital, Board of Directors of Vulcan, Inc.  and served on other local organizations.

Peak was a faithful member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, formally First Presbyterian Church of Selma, serving as elder, deacon, church school superintendent and treasurer.

Peak is best remembered for his love of gardening, his sincere compassion for others, a father who gave unconditional love to his children and a loving and faithful husband.

Church Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Burton officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.  Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00- 2:00 p.m. in the Warren Room at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons.

The family wishes to recognize and thank Bruce’s caregivers, Lillian Washington, Arethia Fail, Gloria Jean Edwards and Penny Thicklin for their dedicated love and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 301 Broad Street, Selma, AL. 36701.
