Carrell Shoultz

Carrell Shoultz passed away July 19, 2026 at the age of 98. He was born June 24, 1928 to the late Bush Shoultz and Etta Caver Daniels.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years and mother of his children, Vivian C. Shoultz; sister, Bernice Johnson; brother, Hawthorne Shoultz; brother, Jessie Carter and step-daughter, Sandy Chandler.

He was a Godly man that loved the Lord and sharing the message of Christ and the importance of serving him. He was a kind man that would do anything for anyone and has done so much for many people. He was loved and respected by so many.

He loved his family dearly and spending time with them was one of his greatest Joys whether it was celebrating birthdays and making homemade ice cream eating out or short trips to the beach. Being surrounded by Family meant the world to him. Known for his strong will, being feisty and stubborn, he was always a leader with gentle loving ways.

He strived to hold his family together and fix any problems. He was our rock. He was a hard-working man from hauling watermelons and buying cars to fixing them up to resell. He went to work for the city of Selma in March of 1957 as Street Foreman, then later was promoted to Public Works director where he retired after more than 30 years. He said retiring was like putting one foot in the grave, so he started a paint striping business that he worked at until he was in his 80's. He was always a sharp dresser with a sharp mind and strong beliefs. It is hard to sum up 98 years of a person's life in a few short paragraphs. 

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, who has faithfully stood by him and cared for him, Ruby Shoultz; children, Charles (Sandra) Shoultz, Carolyn (Danny) Hewlett and Peggy (Tad) Wilkerson; step-children, Gaye (Maxwell) Blalock, Chris (Zena) Collins and Bob (Mary) Collins; grandchildren, Laurie Shoultz, Josh Shoultz, Connie (Brian) Smith, David (Courtney) Hewlett, Rachel (Aaron) Wilkerson and Melanie (Henry) Weber and a number of great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with Pastor Ed Eaton and Pastor Bill Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Selma, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Josh Shoultz, Will Barkley, David Hewlett, Brian Smith, Aaron Rinehart and Henry Weber.

We all love him more than words could say and know how much he loved us. The values he instilled in all of us will remain with us always he will forever be missed. Rest easy in Heaven. . . We've got this.
