Charles Devan

December 22, 1956 — June 10, 2008

Charles Wynne DeVan, 51, of Birmingham died Tuesday June 10, 2008. Mr. Devan was Born and raised in Selma. He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Lee DeVan, life-long residents of Selma. He is survived by his sister Betsy DeVan of Birmingham, his brother Joe DeVan, sister-in-law Brenda, nephews Joseph and Dustin of Bay Minette, AL, adopted sister Judy Quaranto (Mike brother-in-law) of Meridian, MS, his best friend of 30 years Willam E. Barrett of Birmingham, AL. Wynne was well known for his quick wit and sometimes wicked sense of humor, but he also knew that kindness and joy were habits. He opted to exercise happiness throughout his life and taught its value to the wide ranging group of friends he amassed through the years. Wynne never allowed friends to languish. He was the person his friends and family called upon--- often---to help with whatever needed to be done, from contacting the right contractor to seeing after pets while his friends were on vacation. Wynne answered all these requests with amiable generosity that was his nature. Wynne worked as a real estate agent for Realty/South for many years, where he was inducted into the Century Club. Family and friends would like to thank the sensitive, attentive staff of Trinity Medical Centers NICU, who gave him extraordinary care and gave those who loved him reassurance that he was well tended during his weeks there. Graveside services held Friday June 13, 2008, at 3:00 PM at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home directing with David Thomas and Ralph Derryberry officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Bozeman, John Walter, Doug Barrett, Travis Anderson, Ben Hilley, Mike Quaranto, Joseph DeVan and Cecil Kynard. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Birmingham Humane Society at 1713 Lomb Ave., Ensley, AL, 35208, in Memory of Wynne DeVan.
