Clarice Porter Holbrook

December 22, 1952 — February 15, 2024

Selma mourns the loss of a beloved member of its community, Clarice Porter Holbrook, who passed away on February 15, 2024. Born on December 22, 1952, Clarice led a remarkable life that touched the hearts and souls of everyone she encountered. Her radiant smile could light up any room, her passion for teaching and nurturing young minds left an indelible mark on the lives of countless children.

She earned a Master's degree in Education from Auburn University of Montgomery. Clarice began her career as the opener and operator of Kingdom's Kids Kindergarten in the 1980s. Her dedication to early childhood education was evident as she created a nurturing and supportive environment for her students. She then went on to serve as a teacher in several public schools before finding her final calling at Meadowview Christian School, where she wholeheartedly dedicated herself until her retirement.

Beyond her educational accomplishments, Clarice held numerous other roles throughout her life that showcased her exceptional work ethic and commitment to spreading love and light. Her positive presence was felt in every job she took on, leaving a lasting impact wherever she went. Outside of her professional endeavors, Clarice found immeasurable joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished taking them to McDonald's, creating cherished memories that they will always hold dear. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she loved being an integral part of their lives.

She loved genealogy and connecting the dots of everyone's family tree for them - often from memory, knowing everyone in the Selma area. She had an impeccable memory and never met a stranger - according to her, she was related to everyone somehow! Known for her infectious personality, Clarice always wore a smile on her face. Her upbeat and outgoing spirit radiated to all those around her, inspiring others with positivity wherever she went. Often moved by a single word or feeling, Clarice would break into song, captivating those who were fortunate enough to witness these impromptu melodies.

Clarice's love for music extended beyond her spontaneous singing. She was a prized member of the Choir at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, using her beautiful voice to uplift congregants and lead them in worship. Additionally, she devoted her time and talents to spearheading the children's choir, nurturing young voices and instilling a love for music in the next generation.

In her leisure time, Clarice found joy in attending football club gatherings with her friends. These gatherings were not solely about watching games but also about fellowship and bonding with like-minded individuals. Cherishing the camaraderie she found within this community, Clarice created lasting memories that enriched her life further.
