Cynthia Walsh Lane

Cynthia Walsh Lane passed away August 21, 2026 at the age of 71. She was born April 12, 1955 to the late John and Geraldine Walsh.

Cindy "Shug" dedicated her life to caring for her family. Her love radiated from the heart of her home, where she crafted comfort and warmth for everyone she held dear. Those who knew her will remember that her gifts seldom came wrapped in fanfare—they were displayed instead in countless small acts of kindness, thoughtful gestures, and sacrifices made in the background. With a spunky personality and a steadfast refusal to ever seek the spotlight, she poured her energy into others, ensuring their joy and comfort before ever considering her own.

A masterful cook, Shug's kitchen was the gathering place for family and friends alike. She never measured ingredients or followed recipes, yet every dish she made tasted like home and love itself. Creativity and talent sparkled through so much of her life. She enjoyed sewing, always ready to patch or hem garments for anyone who asked, her hands working patiently and skillfully. She was especially known for carefully handmaking baby and toddler clothes for her children and grandchildren, each stitch lovingly placed, every tiny outfit a symbol of her nurturing care.

She is survived by her husband, Pierce Lane; children, Lowery (Travis) Smith and Whit (Anna) Lane; grandchildren, Lane Smith, Ellie Lane, Chambless Smith, Weston Lane and Harper Lane; sister, Debbie (Steve) Rogers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Benton Baptist Church with Rev.. Lee Tate and Rev. Davey Lyon officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow in the church graveyard.

Pallbearers will be Richard Holladay, Pete Williamson, Lane Holladay, Duke Logan, William Lyon, Brad Lane and Tommy Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Benton Baptist Church; 235 Commerce Street, Benton, Alabama 36785.
