Listen to Obituary

Deannie Smith Edwards, age 77, of Millbrook, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026. She was born on December 26, 1948, in Marion, Alabama, to William Wert Smith and Etoyle Poole Smith. Deannie was a graduate of Frances Marion High School.

Deannie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Affectionately known as “Mimi” to her family, she cherished the time she spent with those she loved most. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great joy in making memories and celebrating life’s special moments together.

Deannie loved her husband, Billy Joe Edwards, with whom she would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on August 18. She also enjoyed Alabama sports, especially football, gardening, and planning for the holidays. Her love of the holidays and her joy in preparing for family gatherings brought warmth and happiness to those around her.

Deannie is survived by her loving husband, Billy Joe Edwards; daughter, Heather Edwards; son, Jarrod Smith Edwards (Stephanie Edwards); sister, Betsy Barton; and her beloved grandchildren, Daniel Driver (Jessica Driver), Clay Driver (Morgan Taylor Kelley), Ella Grace Edwards, William Bradley Edwards, Bennett Belle Driver, Madison Taylor Kelley, Mace Tyler Kelley, and Mackenzie Teagan Kelley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Wert Smith and Etoyle Poole Smith.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 14, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Pisgah Baptist Church in Sprott with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., at the church prior to the service.

Deannie will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched and the countless memories she created with her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pisgah Baptist Church in Deannie’s memory.
