Dorothy M. Bennett passed away June 24, 2025 at the age of 76. She was born December 10, 1948 to the late Jimmie and Mollie Day.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy (Gloria) Day; grandson, Levi Lennox; brothers-in-law, Gene Roberts, Titus Willingham and David Hill.
Her family was the cornerstone of her existence. Known for her loving nature, Dorothy's home was often filled with laughter and the delightful anticipation of family gatherings. She took immense joy in hosting these occasions, planning everything from Thanksgiving feasts to Christmas celebrations that brought everyone together. Her culinary talents were unmatched; her vegetable soup and cornbread became beloved staples that reminded every family member of the comforts of home. Additionally, her potato salad, a cherished recipe, became synonymous with love at the table, ensuring that no one ever left her house hungry.
Dorothy’s gentle spirit extended well beyond her family, as she embraced all those around her with open arms. She was not only a dedicated mother, sister, aunt, and friend but also took on the role of family matriarch following the early loss of her own mother. In this capacity, she became the glue that held her family together, fostering connections and caring for each member with profound devotion.
Her heart knew no boundaries; she loved everyone who crossed her path. This deep-seated desire to care for others was exemplified in her commitment to volunteering. For many years, she lovingly dedicated her time to the Vaughn Regional Pink Ladies Auxiliary, providing comfort and companionship to the elderly. It was in these moments that Dorothy shined the brightest, embodying the essence of compassion and grace.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Billy Bennett; daughters, Tammie Bennett (Marty) Vaeth, Sherrie Bennett (Jason) Moss and Wendy (Bobby) Lennox; grandchildren, Auston Vaeth, Ryan Lennox, Nelson Moss, Victoria Moss, Jacob Lennox and Aaron Lennox; sisters, Mary Sue Roberts, Molly (Tom) Jones, Patsy Willingham and Virginia Hill; brothers, Billy (Glenda) Day and James "Dink" (Becky) Day and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with Pastor Eddie Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Casey Cemetery in Tyler. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
She loved the Lord with all her heart and lived each day as a testament to His grace and goodness. Her greatest desire was that everyone would come to know the saving power of Jesus Christ. A woman of unwavering faith, she devoted many years to worship and fellowship at Casey Church of Christ, where her gentle spirit and steadfast devotion touched countless lives. In later years, she became a cherished and long-time member of Selmont Church of Christ, where she continued to encourage others through her kindness, humility, and deep love for the Word. Her faith was not just spoken—it was lived, and her legacy will forever be a beacon pointing others toward Christ.
Pallbearers will be Marty Vaeth, Jason Moss, Bobby Lennox, Auston Vaeth, Ryan Lennox, Nelson Moss, Jacob Lennox and Aaron Lennox.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Casey Cemetery Association, to assist in the upkeep of the cemetery; 8521 US Hwy 80 E, Selma, Alabama 36701.
