Dr. Clide Sidney Sherrod, Jr. M.D.

Dr. Clide Sidney Sherrod, Jr., M.D. passed away September 21, 2026 at the age of 72. He was born in Fort Lewis, Washington on January 19, 1954 to the late Clide Sidney Sherrod, Sr. and Mary Kay Sherrod.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Pascal Sherrod; his mother and father-in-law, John and Lillie Bradley and his sister-in-law, Lillian Bradley.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Jenelle Sherrod; step-mother, Ethel Sherrod; uncle, Roy Sherrod; sister, Dr. Michele Pascale; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Bradley, Betty (Alfonso) Hale and Catherine (Roderick) Harris; brother-in-law, Darryl (Sharon) Bradley, Sr.; nieces, Tomeka (Mark) Bethel, Shequita (Tavarius) Hale, Quinetta (Kenny) Dixon, Tiffany (Benjamin) Flemr and Acenia Bradley (Brandon Mack); nephews, Christopher Pascale, Alfonzo Hale, Jr., Darrly (Arianna) Bradley, Jr., Roderick Harris, Jr.; great-nieces and nephews, Krysten Bethel, Kenyetta Bradley, Jaden Bethel, Ja’Quarious Bradley, Axyle Flemr and Myles Flemr and numerous cousins, family, friends, colleagues and patients.

Dr. Clide Sidney Sherrod, Jr., M.D., devoted more than four decades to medicine, bringing broad clinical training to the care of patients across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. His career joined the comprehensive approach of family medicine with the urgency of emergency care, placing him alongside patients at some of the most consequential moments of their lives.

His academic journey took him to the University of Alaska Anchorage, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He continued his education at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1984. These accomplishments laid the foundation for a career that would carry his knowledge from the classroom into hospitals and communities throughout the South.

Following medical school, Dr. Sherrod pursued internship training in internal medicine at District of Columbia General Hospital and additional training in anesthesiology at Howard University Hospital. He later trained in family medicine through the Selma Family Practice Residency Program, affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His education across these disciplines provided a broad foundation for the varied responsibilities he would assume in medical practice.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Sherrod held medical licenses in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi and served at hospitals across the region. His Mississippi affiliations included Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola, and Panola Medical Center in Batesville. Through his work in emergency medicine, he helped meet the need for physicians prepared to respond when illness or injury could not wait.

His professional preparation included certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. These credentials reflected training in the care of adults and children facing serious medical emergencies and complemented the breadth of his experience in family and emergency medicine.

Dr. Sherrod also belonged to the Mississippi State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the Southern Medical Association. His participation in these professional organizations connected him with the wider community of physicians and the shared responsibilities of the medical profession.

From his studies in Alaska and Washington, D.C., to his training in Selma and years of practice throughout the South, Dr. Sherrod built a substantial record of medical service. Behind that record was the daily work of caring for people who needed a physician. In remembering Dr. Sherrod, we honor the years of preparation and practice he devoted to that responsibility and the place his service holds in the communities he reached.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma. He will be laid to rest at Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande. Public viewing will be Friday evening from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Selma.
