Dr. William B. Virgin passed away October 13, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born November 16, 1942 to the late Dr. William B. Virgin and Eloise Stakely Virgin.
Dr. Virgin's educational path began at Lanier High School, where he fostered friendships that would remain dear to his heart throughout his life. He went on to graduate from The University of Alabama in 1965 before achieving his M.D. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His passion for helping others shone brightly during his career as an ophthalmologist, a profession he devoted himself to with grace and humility, always putting his patients first.
In retirement, he found bliss in dedicating his time to raising and breeding beautiful Peruvian horses alongside his loving wife, Linda. The horses they bred and raised have gained national recognition in horse shows all across the United States.
Dr. Virgin and Linda shared a remarkable adventure sailing the East Coast of the United States aboard their beloved sailboat, "Gypsy Lady." For three years, they embraced life on the water, casting off from Maine and delighting in the sun-kissed shores of the Cayman Islands. Their love for the sea mirrored their love for each other, bound by shared experiences and the joy of discovery.
Beyond his affinity for horses and sailing, Dr. Virgin found pleasure in fishing, and he often relished the thrill of hunting deer and quail. As a pilot, he soared through the skies, gaining a unique perspective of the world below and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
His most treasured accomplishment was his enduring marriage of 60 years to Linda. Their partnership was a testament to unwavering love and support, an embodiment of shared dreams and aspirations. Together, they carved out a beautiful life filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering commitment to one another.
