Edward Lamar Rollan

Edward Lamar Rollan passed away September 27, 2026 at the age of 79. He was born August 9, 1947 in Clanton, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Rollan and Irene Jones Bowman; brother, Jerel Wayne Rolland sisters, Sue Ann Utsey and Janice Elaine Logan.

He is survived by his daughter, Pam Rollan; son, Victor Rollan; daughter, Allie Rollan; grandchildren, Jaxson and Indie; nieces and nephews, Donald Rollan, Melinda Fuller, Billy Logan, Chuck Utsey, Brad Utsey, Sid Utsey and Christy Utsey.

Lamar attended high school in Birmingham before entering the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant (E-5), also known as “Buck Sergeant.” He served as both a platoon sergeant and supply sergeant, overseeing as many as 32 soldiers. As the sole mechanic, he was known for his skill, speed, and dedication to his work. Upon returning from the field, he was often assigned wherever he was needed most, frequently working at the airport. Lamar served honorably in Vietnam for one year and two weeks, earning the respect of those who served alongside him.

His strong work ethic and reliability were hallmarks of his life. His coworkers nicknamed him the “Pink Panther” because of how quickly and efficiently he moved through his work. Beyond his many abilities, Lamar had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand to friends, family, and anyone in need.

A brilliant and inventive man, Lamar had a passion for automobiles and enjoyed working on and repairing them. He also loved designing and building things, finding creative ways to bring his ideas to life. He even designed sewing machines and developed patents for them, which he freely gave away rather than keeping for himself.

Family meant everything to Lamar. When his daughter, Pam, was young, he built her two motorcycles: a pink Honda 50 with a blue-jean seat and a Yamaha 80 that he modified to resemble a 125. These special creations reflected both his ingenuity and his love for his daughter.

In his quieter moments, Lamar enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes and checkers, and simply being at home. His life was defined by service, hard work, generosity, and a deep love for his family.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Michael French officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home in Selma.
