Era Lou Divelbiss

Era Lou Davidson Divelbiss passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2025 at the age of 82. She was born on January 24, 1943 in Santa Monica CA, to G. W. and Vivian Lou Davidson of Oklahoma City, OK.

She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City and married her high school sweetheart and next door neighbor, Ernest E. Divelbiss Jr. June 8, 1962. Starting their family in Oklahoma, they moved to Hesston KS, where Era Lou raised her three children, volunteered with scouting and the church, and pursued a degree in anthropology at Wichita State University. After the family moved to Selma, AL in 1978, Era Lou was active in many areas in the life of her church, First Baptist of Selma, including the Women's Ministry, Sunday School, and many others. She volunteered in the community, serving on the board of SABRA Sanctuary, a non-profit, dedicatd to helping victims of domestic violence. When her children went to college she also returned to school to become a registered nurse, serving in many aspects of hospital nursing including the emergency room. She also served as a home health nurse bringing vital health care to many in the more rural areas around Selma.

Era Lou enjoyed so many different things in life, subjects like archaeology, anthropology, history, music and art. She enjoyed painting and was a prolific reader and Master Gardener. She was adventurous and enjoyed trying new things. She was always exploring and looking for ways to help others, to "love her neighbor as herself." She was "Mama D" to all her grandchildren and great-grandson and loved them all dearly.

Era Lou was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Ernest E. Divelbiss Jr. of Selma AL; her sister Eunice "Gene" (Frank) Brawner of Stratford OK; her three children: Adam (Melissa) Divelbiss of Wappingers Falls, NY, Jennifer (Steve) Middlebrooks, of Ohatchee, AL, and Kirk (Jan) Divelbiss of Marietta GA; her 9 grandchildren: Sarah Middlebrooks Kimbrel, Taylor Middlebrooks, Bobby Middlebrooks, Christian Divelbiss, Timothy Divelbiss, Sam Middlebrooks, David Middlebrooks, Jack Middlebrooks, Justin Divelbiss; great-grandchild: Malachi Kimbrel, many extended family members and countless friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with Pastor Lee Tate officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Graveside services will be Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Resthaven Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to SABRA Sanctuary, 726 Dallas Ave, Selma, AL 36701 or Safe Harbor Women's Medical Clinic, 408 Dallas Ave, Selma, AL 36701.
