Georgia Hill Burns of Selma, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2026. Georgia was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, on October 14, 1930 to Albert M. and Nellie Fair Hill.

She met her beloved husband, Royal Clarke “Bud” Burns from Tryon, North Carolina thru mutual friends and were married on December 24, 1947. She graduated from Hicks Business School in Selma. The couple lived in Kingsport, Tennessee before Bud’s golfing career brought them to Selma to manage Riverside Golf Course and subsequently the Selma Country Club where Bud served as Golf Professional and Georgia served as General Club Manager for 32 years until their retirement.

Georgia was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a previous member of Meadowview Christian Church where she and Bud were founding members. Georgia taught Sunday School and volunteered with Vacation Bible School at Meadowview Christian where they raised their four children.

She was known to escort her children throughout the south to many golfing events and sporting activities. She was a Cub Scout Leader, loved to sew, crochet and knit. Baby blankets are treasured by her grands and great grands. She served on Board of Directors at Meadowview Christian School. She also enjoyed playing golf, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Royal Clarke “Bud” Burns; her son, Gary Clarke Burns; daughter-in-law, Susan Smith Burns; great-granddaughter, Christy Dawn Shaw; brother Orrville Hill; sister, Emily Hill; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with her parents.

She is survived by her children, Charles Thomas “Tommy” Burns of Marion Junction; Stanley Wayne (Wanda) Burns of Selma and daughter, Celia Lynn Moates of Spearfish, South Dakota. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Jule Rittenberry Burns of Selma; her sister, Wanda Hill Rollins of Selma; brothers, Albert “Junior” Hill of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Phillip Hill of Opelika, Alabama; sisters-in-law Patricia Burns of Florence, Alabama; Penny Burns of Gasden, Alabama and Hazel Morgan of Tryon, North Carolina.

She also leaves behind a loving family of grandchildren, great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews to carry forward her legacy of faith and love.

A memorial service will be held in Selma at Fairview Baptist Church on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Otey Chrisman and Rev. Jonathan Shanks officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Visitation with the family will commence at 10:00 a.m. one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma.

Pallbearers include Clarke Burns, Wren Burns, Anderson Burns, Cleveland Burns, Thomas Burns, Cink Minter, Jack Callaway and Evan Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Ross, Von Moates, Dennis Morgan, Kenny Morgan, Randy Morgan, Michael Rollins and David Rollins.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Chris and Patricia Burns Junior Golf Foundation, 885 Florence Blvd. Florence, Alabama 35630 or to your charity of choice.
