Herman Dale Yoder, age 67, of Temple, Georgia, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 18, 1959, to the late Elvin Yoder and Clara Troyer Yoder. He was united in marriage to Sharon Rose Weaver on May 20, 1983, and together they shared 43 years of love and devotion.
Herman was born with polycystic kidney disease and, as an infant, was not expected to survive. His mother prayed over him and asked God to spare his life, promising in return to raise him for the glory of God. Herman gave his life to the Lord at a young age.
He was a faithful follower of Jesus and loved serving others. His love for people led him and his family to serve on the mission field in England, Ireland, and Scotland. He attended Grace City Church in Temple, Georgia, and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.
Herman was a faithful and loving husband and father. He was also a hardworking provider who never allowed his health struggles to define him.
He was the co-owner and operator of Weaver’s Wood and Metal in Carrollton, Georgia, where he worked faithfully for many years.
His strong work ethic and determination were evident in every aspect of his life. He especially loved spending time outdoors with his son,
Matthew, hunting and fishing together while always believing the next trip would bring “the big one.” Those moments became some of the memories he treasured most.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant siblings; his brother, Elvin Ray; and two sisters, Mary and Rose.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sharon Yoder, and son, Matthew Yoder, both of Temple, Georgia; stepmother, Barbara Yoder of Alabama; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Deloris and Broaddus Massey of Tennessee, and Glenda and Emmanuel Yoder of Alaska; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Nathan and Julie Yoder, and Paul and Juanita Yoder, both of Alabama.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 3:30 PM until 5:30 PM.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 6:00 PM on Tuesday evening with Pastor Tommy Adams officiating.
The family will also receive friends at Orrville Mennonite Church, 6350 Co Rd 21, Safford, Alabama 36773, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. He will lie in state at the church on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Tommy Adams and Pastor Eli Troyer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
