Ivy J. Griffin Jr., TSgt, USAF (Ret.) passed away January 25, 2026 at the age of 91. He was born born August 14, 1934 to the late Ivy J. and Gladys E. Griffin.

A proud veteran, Jim served his country with distinction in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of honorable service as a logistician. His commitment and dedication during those years were a testament to his character, underlining a life that consistently prioritized the well-being of others.

Professionally, Jim brought his strong work ethic to Phillies Cigar, where he retired as a supervisor. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him remember him not just for his skills but for his unwavering kindness and support. Jim was more than a colleague; he was a mentor, a source of encouragement, and a friend.

At the core of Jim's being was a loving, caring spirit with a heart of gold. He was the type of man who would do anything to help anyone in need. This innate kindness resonated through every corner of his life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Family meant everything to Jim, and he made it his mission to nurture and support those he loved. His proudest accomplishment was the love he shared with his family, a love that will continue to thrive in their hearts.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Jim found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished working in his yard, cultivating a sanctuary of beauty that reflected his vibrant spirit. In his younger years, Jim took to the outdoors with enthusiasm, enjoying fishing and camping adventures, as well as working on cars—a testament to his hands-on nature and his love for exploration and discovery.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Gladys P. Hughes Griffin; sons, William Ralph Griffin, Brian Keith Griffin and Jimmy Wayne Griffin; daughter, Mary Kathrine Griffin and sister, Waurine (Billy) Wallace.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Dean (Joe) Kuss; sons, Gary Leaton (Louise) Griffin and Thomas Richard (Patty) Griffin; daughter-in-law, Tracey Griffin and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha (Bill) Anderson, Margaret (Buckey) Bohannon and Keeble (Jim) Brantley; brother, Thomas (Lenda) Griffin and Alfred (Linda) Griffin; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens. Vistation will begin at the funeral home in Selma at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Joe Kuss, Richard Billingsley, Dallas Griffin, Dylan Tatum, Mason Tatum and Tom Stacey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a favorite charity of choice.
