John Thomas “Tom” Moore Sr. passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025 after 92 years of faithful service to the Lord.
Tom was born on January 28, 1933 in Dallas County, Alabama to the late James Claude Moore and Vera Belle Potts Moore. He was a graduate of Orrville High School and Marion Military Institute, graduating with an associate’s degree in business administration. An avid lover of sports, he was a left handed pitcher for the Southern League’s Chattanooga Lookouts. In 1954, he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and in 1955, he returned home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Christine (Gilmer) Moore. After finishing 2 years of service, he returned to Selma to begin his 42 year career with Bush Hog Mfg., along with cattle farming.
After retirement, he returned to Marion Junction to spend time with family, raise cattle, serve his community, and serve as an Elder at Prosperity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lynn Moore Dale; brother, James Donald (Betty) Moore; and sisters, Claudia (Theodore) Mueller, Vera Belle Karrick, Sara Moore (W.J.) Neighbors, and Mae Moore (A.F.) Caley.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Christine Gilmer Moore; son, John Thomas (Vicky) Moore Jr.; son-in-law, John Laurie Dale III; grandchildren, Thomas Kennith (MaryBlan) Moore, Anna Moore (Weston) Epperson, Laurie Dale (Ryan) Pearson, Olivia Moore Dale; great-grandchildren, Carlisle Moore, Callan Epperson, Marlowe Epperson, Ellawyn Epperson, and John Patrick Pearson.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Prosperity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Marion Junction with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the community of Marion Junction, Southern Care New Beacon hospice staff, and caregivers. Memorial gifts may be sent to Cure PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) or the charity of your choice.
