James Martin "Jimmy" Warbington passed away December 24, 2025 at the age of 94. He was born March 19, 1931 to the late Ernest Martin Warbington and Annie Laura McGraw Warbington. He was a graduate of Francis Marion High School before pursuing his education at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he honed his skills in industrial art and played football with passion.

Jimmy exemplified the spirit of service when he joined the United States Army, where he devoted over 12 years as a drill sergeant, imparting discipline and honor to countless trainees. His leadership and commitment to excellence not only shaped the lives of those he trained but also instilled in him a profound sense of pride and duty. After honorable service, Jimmy transitioned into a long and fulfilling career, working until the age of 82 for several industrial supply companies. His relentless work ethic and profound knowledge made him a respected figure in his field, earning admiration from colleagues and clients alike.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Jimmy found joy in his hobbies. He was a man of many talents, especially enjoyed working out in the shop he had built with his own hands. Known as a tinkerer, he spent hours devoted to restoring cars, pouring love into each project that came to life under his meticulous care. He was a co-owner of a racecar with his close friend, Butch Huffman, a passion that brought him great pride and joy. Jimmy also held a passion for fishing, particularly for Bass, and took great pride in being a member of the Central City Bassmasters in Selma. The tranquility of the water and the excitement of the catch always brought him peace and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Heloyce Nichols Warbington; daughters, Bobbie Ann Warbington and Kelli Denise Warbington; son, James Michael Warbington; siblings, Thomas Herman Warbington and Ann Warbington Foster; step-son, DeWayne Turner and step-grandchildren, John Shelton Rogers and Elizabeth Morgan Rogers Mabalot.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon C. Warbington; grandchildren, Kristian Smith; step-daughter, Darlene Turner (John) Rogers; step-grandchildren, Cole Turner and Alexandra Turner; sister, Bobbie Jean Coorpender and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma with the date and time to be announced at the beginning of this upcoming week.
