Listen to Obituary

Jason "J.C.' Higginbotham passed away April 27, 2026 at the age of 26. He was born June 21, 1999 and his life, though marked by challenges, was a testament to courage, faith, and an enduring spirit.

From a young age, J.C. faced the difficult journey of living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, diagnosed when he was just six years old. Yet, despite this diagnosis, he never allowed his condition to define him. J.C. always greeted the world with a contagious smile and a caring heart, inspiring those around him with his unwavering fighting spirit. Even in the most difficult moments, his smile shone brightly, reminding us all of the strength one can find in hope and love.

J.C. was a beloved member of Plantersville Baptist Church, where he found both community and purpose. Here, he served faithfully as an usher, welcoming all with warmth and kindness. In 2009, he carried his passion beyond the church doors as the goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, advocating boldly and tenderly for others facing similar battles.

His love for life's simple joys was evident in his interests and hobbies. J.C. cherished his animals dearly; his chickens and geese brought him peaceful moments, while his dogs, Baby Girl and Gus, were ever faithful companions who shared in his affections. Gardening was a sanctuary for him, especially tending to his beloved rose bushes, nurturing them with the same gentle care he showed to those around him. His enthusiasm for wrestling and Auburn Football brought him joy and connection, filling his days with excitement and camaraderie. Above all, Jason’s proudest accomplishment was his deep love for Jesus and devotion to his church family at Plantersville Baptist Church. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, grounding him and inspiring all who knew him.

He is survived by his nana and papa, Brenda and Phillip Higginbotham; his dad, Jason P. (Mary) Higginbotham; half-siblings, Caden, Faith, Liberty and Alexis Higginbotham; aunt, Kellie (Kyle) Kinman; cousins, Landon (Lydia Smitherman) Kinman, Logan Kinman and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and church family at Plantersville Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Plantersville Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry "Tater" Harrison officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Nichols, Roger Nichols, Dale Banks, Hunter Nichols, Pete Nichols, Mickey Patterson, Dustin Julian and Curtis Farmer.

J.C.’s life, though too brief, was rich with love, courage, and an extraordinary spirit that will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. As we remember him, we hold close the memory of his radiant smile and the gentle strength that defined who he was—a beacon of hope, love, and resilience.
