Joe Wallace Davis, born on August 4, 1939, passed away on April 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, family love, and dedication that will resonate through the hearts of those who had the honor to know him. He embodied a both remarkable and inspiring a life that, for over 35 years, found purpose in the meticulous practice of nursing as a Nurse Anesthetist. From his early beginnings in Norfolk, Joe took pride in his work, documenting every moment with unwavering precision. His detailed logs chronicled more than ten thousand cases, a testament to his commitment and the profound impact he made in the lives of others.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Davis.

He is survived by his sons, David (Tawnya) Davis and Chris (Angie) Davis; grandson, Brogan (Jennifer) Davis ; great-granddaughters, Phebe Davis and Brylee Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe's work ethic mirrored the love he held for his family and friends. He approached every facet of his life with the same diligence and reverence that defined his career, displaying an incredible amount of respect and admiration for those he cherished. His gentle spirit and warm heart were evident to all who crossed his path, making even ordinary moments filled with extraordinary warmth.

At home, Joe found joy in the company of his beloved wife, Vada, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, relishing the time he spent with them. Their accomplishments were cherished milestones to him, and he took delight in watching his great-grandchildren grow, knowing he had played a part in their lives and futures.

In addition to his professional achievements, Joe served his country honorably in the US Army for four years, later extending his commitment to service by dedicating over 30 years to the Alabama National Guard and Oregon National Guard. Rising to the rank of Major, he ultimately retired as a Colonel from the Oregon National Guard. His military service was a source of pride, enriching his character and shaping the man we remember today.

Beyond his admirable professional and military careers, Joe possessed interests that further defined him. A passionate HAM (Handheld Amateur) radio operator for over 60 years, he maintained this hobby both in Alabama and Oregon, connecting with friends across the airwaves and often sharing stories and laughter.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Ocmulgee Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Goodwin officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Burial of his cremains will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., at the church.

His pallbearer will be Chris Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be David Davis, Terry Shields and Marshall Pugh and the church family at Ocmulgee.

As we celebrate Joe Wallace Davis’ life, we remember not only the man who dedicated himself to his profession and his family but also the friend, mentor, and proud patriarch who brought joy to so many. His legacy is marked by a love that transcends time, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our memories.
