Johnny went to be with his Father in Heaven on 20 July 2018, 1 week after his 69th birthday. There he will join his earthly parents, John Huffman Sr. and Elsie R. Huffman, Nephew Thomas (Tommy) Stone, as well as other extended family members for their glorious reunion. Johnny is survived by his sister: Patsy (Rod) Stone, Nephew: Russ (Jennifer) Stone and their children Nick and Emily, Nephew: Timothy (Jessica) Stone and their children JT, Aiden and Kyrie, and many cousins and friends.
Johnny served his country in the U S Army where he was a member of the 1st Calvary Division, Air Mobile, and other units during his stint where he served in Vietnam in 1970. He received numerous awards and medals including the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 service stars, and others. Johnny joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was a life member.
For 45+ years, Johnny was a faithful employee of Bush Hog Manufacturing Co, where he started part time while still in high school and was employed full time after his return from Vietnam in May 1973 to present.
Family visitation will be at Lawrence Brown Funeral Home on North Broad Street (Citizens Parkway) in Selma, Alabama, on Tuesday, 24 July 2018 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, 25 July 2018 at 2 PM at the chapel of Lawrence Brown Funeral Home with Reverend William (Bill) Goodman officiating and interment will follow immediately at New Live oak Cemetery with military honors. Lawrence Brown Funeral Home will be directing the services.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Edwards, Bruce Adams, Jimmy Richey, James Sharbutt Jr., Roy Farmer, and Allen Cozadd. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of VFW Post 3016, longtime co-workers at Bush Hog, Charlie Huffman, and special neighbors Michael & Rhonda Tupper.
The family would like to send a special Thank You to the Doctors and Nurses at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, MICU and Oncology ICU for the professional and compassionate care that they afforded Johnny during his last 18 days here on this earth.
