Joyce Nunnally Richardson passed away peacefully at her home in Marion on August 27, 2025 at the age of 94. She was born in Attalla, Alabama on June 15, 1931 to the late John Algernon Nunnally and Loucille Maise Nunnally.
Joyce's professional journey was a testament to her dedication and passion for youth development. After earning her degree from Judson College in 1955, she committed herself to serving her community through three decades of work as a 4-H agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service, through Auburn University. Her influence extended beyond her professional responsibilities as she was also elected to the Perry County School Board, serving as Vice-Chairman—an honor she approached with the same fervor and compassion she applied to every aspect of her life.
A vibrant personality, Joyce possessed a lively and generous spirit that attracted friendships wherever she went. Her quick wit could light up a room, making conversations with her memorable and full of joy. She cherished her time spent attending Auburn football games with her beloved husband, Joe, sharing the thrill of the sport and the camaraderie that came with supporting their team. Joyce also delighted in antiquing with her friends, a pursuit that brought her joy and allowed her to cultivate lasting bonds.
As a devoted member of Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, Joyce nurtured her faith deeply, having joined the church during her freshman year at Judson. Her love for her community extended into her involvement in various social clubs, including her beloved gardening and bridge clubs, where she connected with fellow enthusiasts and shared laughter and stories from her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Richardson and sister, Betty Nunnally (Charles) Jones.
She is survived by her nephew, Ruben (Beth) Watters and Jim Watters; great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Watters, Sarah Jean (Josh) McAteer, Joseph Watters and Harrison (Isabella) Watters; great-great-nieces and nephews, Wood McAteer, Anne Marshall McAteer and Samuel Watters.
