Joyce Lee Sims, a cherished soul, passed away on April 27, 2025, after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 27, 1967, in her childhood home in Lowndes County, Alabama, Joyce was a beacon of love and warmth throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Selma High School in 1985, she furthered her education at Alabama A&M University, where she forged the path that would lead her to a fulfilling career. For over 30 years, Joyce served as a project manager and district administrator with the Alabama Department of Transportation, a role she undertook with passion, dedication, and a desire to serve her community.
Joyce's home was a gathering place of laughter, joy, and community spirit. Mike and Joyce's house was where everyone came to share moments, and she reveled in her role as host. Joyce was known for her generosity, ensuring that everyone left not only with full stomachs but also with full hearts. Her culinary talents were matched only by her love for nurturing plants, as she delighted in growing everything from lemon trees to collard greens and tomatoes. It brought her immense joy to watch seeds transform into bountiful harvests, and her love for the Cooking Channel was a testament to her passion for culinary creativity.
Joyce never met an enemy; her loving spirit made her friends with anyone she encountered. She had a remarkable ability to touch lives with her kindness and grace. A devoted follower of her faith, she found strength and solace in her love for the Lord. Joyce was also a passionate fan of Alabama Football, enthusiastically supporting her team with an unwavering spirit.
Her legacy is woven into the fabric of every life she touched, leaving behind a profound impact on her family, friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Joyce Lee Sims will be lovingly remembered for her vivacious personality, her commitment to service, and the love that she so generously shared with everyone around her. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched, as they carry forward her spirit of kindness and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dottie Mae Davis and brother, Michael Swift.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Michael Sims; brother, Patrick Lee and brother-in-law, Mark Sims; father-in-law, Larry Sims.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Gate A.M.E. Church at the corner of County Road 4 and County Road 63 in Minter with Pastor Labarron Mack officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Southwest Christian Care Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia 30291.
