Judith Thomason Hagood

October 26, 1941 — November 24, 2023

Judith Elaine Thomason Hagood, 82, died on November 24, 2023, at The Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Madison, MS.

Born on October 26, 1941, to Martha Elizabeth Braswell Thomason and John Francis Thomason, Judy Hagood spent most of her growing up years in Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School where she was a majorette. After high school, Judy attended Birmingham Southern College where she was active in the Kappa Delta sorority. Upon graduation, Judy and several college friends moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where Judy was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. During her time in New Orleans, Judy met and married Joseph Herrin Hagood, Jr., and they moved to Panama City Beach, Florida where she taught school.

After several years in Memphis, Tennessee Judy and Joe made their home in Selma, Alabama where they lived for over 50 years. In Selma, Judy participated in many community service organizations and clubs and served as an officer in the Women of the Church at the First Presbyterian Church, now Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, and found great joy singing in the choir. Judy loved her church, community, and her dear friends who continued to support her and her family as she battled the debilitating illness that eventually took her life.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, her son Joseph Herrin Hagood, III, brother John Braswell Thomason, brother Sam Austin Thomason, sister-in-law Suzanne Pettus Thomason, brother-in-law John Thomas Hagood, and sister-in-law Molly Hicks Hagood.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Hagood Alley (Warwick) of Jackson, MS; her grandchildren: Anne Kathryn Hagood, Caroline O'Dale Hagood, Joseph Herrin Hagood, IV, Judith Ivy Alley, and Charles Warwick Alley, Jr.; sister-in-law Mary Thomason of Montgomery; sister-in-law Margaret Russell Hagood of Mobile; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

The family thanks Annie Robertson, Cedar Hill Assisted Living, Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center, and Pax Hospice for the loving care they provided for Judy during her time of need.
