June 3, 1942 — April 24, 2026

Listen to Obituary

June Quarterman Tolson went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 24, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on June 3, 1942, to James and Lois Quarterman in Selma, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Lois Quarterman, her sister, Linda Peterson, and her daughter, Deborah June Pressley.

She attended Albert G. Parrish High School and graduated in 1960. She made her home in Birmingham where she attended McElwain Baptist Church for many years until she moved her membership to Dawson Memorial Baptist church so that she could attend worship with her family. She loved children and found her calling working in the nursery at Dawson in her later years. Before that, she could often be seen at White Flowers Gallery in Mountain Brook Village and later in Homewood, where she worked for many years and where she made dear friends with co-workers and customers alike.

In her early years in Birmingham, she worked as a medical assistant for several physicians. Her favorite place to go was the beach where she loved to walk along the water collecting seashells. She also enjoyed being with her family no matter the destination. She loved reading, especially mystery novels as well as the Mitford series. She also loved watching movies. She knew the words to all the old hymns and loved to sing. She loved life and she loved people. She was a loving mom to her daughter and son-in-law, Dianah and Joe Ellis and a devoted “Granbug” to her three grandchildren Mercer Grey, Shepherd, and Martha May as well as the many foster children that came into their care.

There will be a Celebration of June’s Life will be held at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama on May 4th, 2026. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a service to follow at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, our family requests any donations be sent to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home which was the charity most near and dear to her heart.
