Karen York Helms, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024. She has left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Karen was a vibrant soul who adored her family above all else. Her favorite saying, "Wait A Minute", echoed through the air as she showered her loved ones with affection. A devoted mother and Maw Maw, Karen's presence brought joy and warmth to every family gathering she graced with her infectious energy. Among her many hobbies and interests, Karen found delight in dancing, the great outdoors, camping trips, and fishing excursions. Her zest for life was truly remarkable, making every moment spent with her an unforgettable experience.

One of Karen's proudest accomplishments was her culinary talent. Known for her mouth-watering biscuits, delectable potato salad, and flavorful chicken and dumplings, she nourished not only stomachs but also hearts with her delicious creations.

Karen bravely confronted the challenges brought forth by Alzheimer's and dementia in her final years, demonstrating remarkable resilience and unwavering grace throughout her journey. Though this cruel disease may have stolen moments of clarity and recollection, it could never diminish the love and warmth that Karen brought into the lives of those around her. Despite the hardships, her family found solace and strength in coming together, weaving a tapestry of precious memories that will endure beyond the grasp of time.

At the heart of Karen's care was her devoted daughter, Annette, whose unwavering dedication and selflessness illuminated the darkest of days. Annette's steadfast presence and boundless love provided comfort and reassurance to Karen, serving as a beacon of hope amidst the shadows of uncertainty.

She is survived by her son, Henry (April) Helms, Jr.; daughters, Merle Annette (Mark) Andrews; Diane (Tony) Kaldor; grandchildren, Tonya Hicks, Katherine Kaldor, Caleb (Kendall) Helms, Henry "Hank" (Brittney) Helms, Austin (Katie) Helms, Janna (Stephen) Sanchez, William (Shelby) Andrews, Rico (Estella) Andrews, Annagrace (Tyler) Smith, Nathan Andrews and Noah Andrews; great-grandchildren, Christopher Ross, Addeyson Ross, Brooklyn Hicks, Colby Kaldor , Myles Kaldor, Kyle Kaldor, Remington Kaldor, Braxton Helms, Maddox Helms, Cade Helms, Rayden Helms, Dutton Helms, Cora Sanchez, Isabella Andrews, Lilly Andrews, Fisher Smith and any day now, Waylon Andrews; sisters, Vina Bearden and Nancy McDonald; brother, George (Pat) York; sisters-in-law, Debbie York, Linda York and Sue York.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Helms, Sr. in 1997 and later husband, Kenneth Helms in 2020; grandson, Corey Helms; brothers, Gene (Shirley) York, Bill York, Faron York; brothers-in-law, Louis McDonald, William "Pepsi" Bearden.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Pastor Mark Andrews officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Helms, Hank Helms, Austin Helms, Nathan Andrews, Rico Andrews, Will Andrews and Noah Andrews.
