Kenneth Cox

Kenneth Owen Cox, age 77, of Fairhope, left the confines of this earthly body for his eternal reward, Sunday, November 5, 2017.

Ken was born in Marvel, AL, October 17, 1940. He later moved with his parents to Montevallo, where he attended grammar school. In 1955, he moved to Selma, Al. Later, graduating from A.G. Parrish High School, Ken joined the Air Force and was stationed at Barksdale Air force base in Shreveport, LA. Upon an honorable discharge, he attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. He moved to Atlanta, Ga where he resided for 50 years. In recent years he lived in Fairhope, AL.

Ken was known for his beautiful singing voice which was similar to Elvis Presley. He performed Elvis songs in which he always said, “I am not an Elvis impersonator I just pay tribute to him.” As Ken grew closer to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, he sang more of Elvis’ gospel songs, always including: “How Great Thou Art”, whether he was performing at a secular venue or ministering to prisoners, churches, and nursing homes. Before his trip home, he was heard saying, “the door is opening and I will enter singing!”

Mr. Cox is preceded by his mother: Hazel Parsons DeVan (John Dee); father: Paul Cox; brother: Bill Cox (Carolyn); and a niece: Debi Hoskins Ritchie.

He is survived by his loving and precious wife: Mary Jane Hancock, daughter: Karen Johnson (Roy), grandchildren: MadeLyn and Andrew Jones; brother: Ron Cox; sisters: Ann Hoskins (Johnny), Sherry Evans (Sam), Carol Cox, Deena DeVan Robins (Andy); nephews: Eric Hoskins, John Paul Cox, Dr. David Cox, Hunt Loper, Reid Loper; nieces: Kelly Cox, Shannon Boyd, Katie Loper Hagan, Samantha Evans; and 18 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev.Mark Andrews officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be 12 – 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Eric Hoskins, Jamie Boyd, John Paul Cox, Brad Hancock, Chris Hancock, and Sam Evans.
