Listen to Obituary

Lawrence Mitchell "Noodie" Carroll passed away June 15, 2026 at the age of 89, surrounded by his family. He was born July 30, 1936 to the late Thomas Orand Carroll and Pauline Lawrence Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his son, Chris Carroll; granddaughter, Michelle Carroll and Angel Carroll; son-in-law, Chuck Smedley and brothers; Kenneth Carroll and William "Billy" Carroll.

A man of many talents and a tireless work ethic, he was never one to sit still. Right out of high school, he began working on appliances, a trade that would become a lifelong part of his story. From the early 1990s until 2001, he owned and operated Noodie Carroll Appliances in Plantersville, where he served countless families throughout the community.

In 1984, he started Noodie’s BBQ in Plantersville, creating a barbecue sauce unlike any other. That closely guarded family recipe became a local staple that has remained a beloved part of Central Alabama for decades. Known far and wide for his barbecue, his good cooking, and his one-of-a-kind sauce, he built more than a business; he built a gathering place and a tradition.

He operated both his appliance store and barbecue venture from the home where he had grown up, a place he lovingly restored with the help of his family and turned into a business storefront. It was a fitting reflection of who he was: hardworking, resourceful, rooted in family, and proud of where he came from.

Whether he was driving a school bus for Dallas County Schools, repairing appliances, selling appliances, cooking barbecue, or moving on to the next project, he always kept busy. He had a heart of gold and a lead foot, always going from one thing to the next with determination and purpose. Most of all, he instilled in his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, perseverance, and taking pride in a job well done.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie Carroll; children, Larry (Tammy) Carroll, and Jamar Carroll Smedley; grandchildren, Mitchell (Heather) Carroll, Anna Carroll, Kelsie Carroll, Katie Carroll and Cheney (Bo) Hoffman and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Plantersville Christian Church with Rev. Mike Wyatt officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at the Plantersville Christian Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
