Lessie Chance

November 25, 1929 — January 11, 2018

Lessie Bell Franklin Chance passed away on January 11, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born November 25, 1929 to Houston and Pearl Etheridge Franklin. She is preceded by her husband: Elwood Calvin Chance; her son: Larry Alton Chance; a sister: Lois Franklin Lord; and brother: Trammell J. Franklin.

Mrs. Chance was a dedicated and faithful servant of the Lord. She was a member of Sisters Springs Baptist Church in Tyler.

Mrs. Chance had a long and rewarding career as a registered dietitian for Southside High School. During her tenure, she was active in the Alabama School Food Service Association serving as President. She was also served as the director of the Childrens Summer School Food program. She will be remembered by the Southside Alumni for her dedication to the school and the children she provided meals for.

Mrs. Chance was a member of the Selma Emblem Club and took great pleasure in serving the community through this organization.

Of her many accomplishments in her life, her most cherished were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who were the light in her smile.

She is survived by her son: Jerry Adrian Chance (Donnie); daughter in law: Althea Harrison Chance; grandchildren: Leah (Steve) Sansom, Jarred (Jennifer) Chance, Chad Chance, Courtney Chance, Elizabeth Day; great grandchildren: Owen Tillman Sansom, Madison Elizabeth Sansom, Anna Grace Chance, William Clayton Chance; and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Johnathan Jenkins officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 10:30 – 11:00 at the Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jarred Dewayne Chance, Steve Sansom, Steve Spivey, Joseph Spivey, Chad Chance, and Monk Moore.

The family would like to recognize Southern Care Hospice for their care and dedication. Memorials can be sent to Southern Care Hospice 1164 County Road 43 Tyler, AL 36785.
