Louie "Country Boy" Allen Adkison passed away Febraury 5, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born June 12, 1939 to the late Fred Adkison and Allie Ruth Early Adkison. He spent over 42 years dedicating his professional life as a district storekeeper with Alabama Power. His hard work and commitment were mirrored by the love and joy he brought to those around him.

Country Boy was known far and wide as a jokester with a contagious laugh. He possessed the remarkable ability to light up any room with his humor, making everyone feel welcome with his warm, open spirit. To Country Boy, every person was a potential friend; he never met a stranger and could connect with anyone through a shared smile or a well-timed joke.

He was a long-time member of the Summerfield Road Church of Christ and later became an integral part of the Houston Park Church of Christ. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with those around him.

An avid fishing enthusiast, Country Boy cherished his time spent by the water. He also devoted a remarkable 48 years to officiating sports across Selma, becoming a familiar and cherished presence for countless young athletes. If you were a kid growing up in this town, the chances are high that Country Boy graced your games with his fair yet fun-loving officiating style. His impact on the local sports community extended beyond the field; he became a part of the very fabric of growing up in Selma.

Everyone who played ball in the area knew Country Boy. He wasn’t merely an umpire; he was a part of the summer, a reassuring presence during games, and a person who helped shape memories for generations of children. His warmth and steadiness could calm any tense moment on the field. With his signature mix of fairness and humor, Country Boy was a constant source of joy and guidance—his laughter echoing in the hearts of all who had the pleasure to know him. Many of our fondest memories are intertwined with his encouraging voice in the background, serving as a reminder of his profound impact.
