Mae Elizabeth Wilcox

Mae Elizabeth Wilcox, 95 of the Ocmulgee Community in Perry County, Alabama went home to her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2026. She was born in Selma, Alabama on August 20, 1930, the daughter of James Russell Williams and Eula Mae Williams. Her mother suffered an untimely death after Mae’s birth and she was raised in Marion Junction, Alabama by her maternal grandparents, Joseph E. Smith and Emma Eugenia Smith. She was baptized at the Marion Junction Baptist Church.

Mae attended the Marion Junction Grammar School and graduated from Orville High School in 1948. After high school she attended a Catholic Business College that was located in Selma, Alabama. In 1951 she went to work for Zeigler’s and retired from their bookkeeping department on July 31, 1993.

She met the love of her life, Dean Wilcox, at the Marion Junction Baptist church where they married on February 26, 1956, and they attended there for many years. In later years she attended the Ocmulgee Baptist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed reading, cross stitching, baking, canning, spending time with family and friends and her collection of various types of plants and cactus.

Mae is survived by her husband, Dean Wilcox; daughters: Beth Miller (Jim) of Panama City, Florida; Carol Wilcox of Ocmulgee; granddaughters: Sara Thrash (Jason) of Deatsville, Alabama; Rachel Hanks (Neil) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; great-grandson: Tate Thrash of Deatsville, Alabama; cousins (who are like sisters), Audra Westbrook (John) of Marion Junction, Alabama; Glenda Brock of Opelika, Alabama and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; aunts and uncles: Zoe Williams; Howard Smith (Stelle); Edward Smith (Margaret), Gene Smith (Anna Mae) Reuben Smith (Willie Dean) and her most beloved Mattie Belle Adams, (Irving).

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma. Graveside services will be held at the Marion Junction Cemetery on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Goodwin officiating.
