Maurer, Martha, 89, a resident of Selma, AL, entered her eternal home on August 27, 2026. Martha was born on January 20, 1937, in Electric Mills, MS to the late Frank and Edna Watson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sue Cooper of Mobile, son, Hank Tolar of Marion, and husband, Charlie Maurer of Selma.
Martha is survived by her sons: Michael Tolar (Debra) of Gainesville, FL, Gregory Tolar(Lori) of Autaugaville, Andrew Tolar (Lisa) of Pike Road; her grandchildren, Caeli, Zachary (Joy), Ara Ruth (Adam), Pierce (Ella), Ragan, Reid (Ashley), Drew, and Emily; great grandchildren, Rael, Pria, Ki, Audrey, Jonah, and Watson; as well as brother, Tommy Watson, and Chuck Maurer, son of her late husband.
Martha was raised on a family farm near Geiger, AL. Upon graduation from high school, Martha attended Livingston State College for a brief time, and in 1956, married James Tolar. They raised their four boys on a dairy farm near Marion, AL. In 1984, Martha married Charlie, and moved to Selma, AL. While living in Selma, during these past 42 years, she’s enjoyed working at Albritton's Flowers, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, visiting her many friends, and dancing and dining events at the Elks Lodge on Highway 80. In addition to these activities, Martha also offered her time and care to her father, mother, son, husband, and sister-in-law during their extended illnesses, and subsequent passing.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Marion Methodist Church in Marion, AL at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
