On May 27, 2026, Mary McMilion Hansell passed away at her home surrounded by her family. Beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many, Mary’s remarkable life and testimony leave a legacy of faith in Christ and love for everyone who knew her.
A lifelong resident of Selma, Alabama, Mary was born on April 17, 1956, to the late Dr.Louis McMilion, Jr and to Mary (Boo) McMilion. Mary was the beloved wife of Paul Hansell, Sr., and the devoted mother to Paul Hansell, Jr. (Jodi), and Meg King (Jason). One of her greatest joys in life was being know as “Marmee” to her six grandchildren and great-grandson: Taylor Renfrow (Ryan), Lange Johnson, Reese Hansell, Matthew King, John King, Ryall King and Forrest Renfrow. Mary is also survived by two loving brothers – Louis McMilion, III (Patti), and Reid McMilion – numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
A long-time member and elder of Blue Jean Church, Mary was committed to serving the Lord in Celebrate Recovery, volunteering at the local Teen Challenge, and leading many discipleship/prayer groups. Mary was also active at Christ the King Church participating in weekly prayer/communion services and frequently serving in the Lazarus Ministry.
Gifted by the Lord with prophetic visons and dreams, Mary imparted powerful words of wisdom, healing, and truth to many others as God brought them in her path. Mary’s legacy includes a collection of her daily conversations with Jesus entitled Our Special Mornings, a book that is cherished by her family and close friends.
Mary’s Celebration of Life will be held at Blue Jean Church in Selma on Tuesday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. with the graveside immediately following at New Live Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Teen Challenge, Blue Jean Church, or Christ the King Church.
