Ned W. Woodard, previously of Selma, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 9 at the age of 85. He was born September 24, 1939 to the late Tollie and Bardee Woodard of Selma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and cherished sister, Elray Woodard Baldwin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Ann Hopkins Woodard, their children, Amy (Michael) children Adam and Ethan; and son, Christopher (Carolyn) children Lydia and Christopher Jr and his beloved nephew Charles Stanley Baldwin (Kathleen).
Ned was a devoted Christian and grew up at West Highland Methodist and once married, First Wesleyan Church. In 1984, he moved his family to Fort Walton Beach where he became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. There he served on multiple committees, trustees, attended Walk to Emmaus, and taught the Enrichment Class. Ned loved God, his family and Alabama football. He took much pride in his grandchildren, wood working, golfing when able, working on his plans or reports for work and in the fall- cheering on the Crimson Tide.
Ned worked for many construction companies as a quality control inspector and cherished his time with the Scruggs Company and Civil Tech out of Valdosta. A particular career highlight was to help establish the 7th Special Forces base at Duke Field. Most recently he was still working and employed with Onapa. Since Ned never met a stranger, we would be remiss not to mention his devoted work buddies- Jim, Brian, Van, Mr Moe, Jerad “War Eagle,” and Nate. Anytime away from family was spent with them.
Never let influence be confused with impact. Ned had an impact on us all and that is why there will forever be a hole in our hearts without him.
Graveside services will be Friday, August 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. There will be no visitation.
