Olivia Stone Dale passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at the age of 92. Surrounded by her family in her final days, she was a woman with a deep love for Jesus Christ and we take comfort knowing that while she may no longer be here with us, she is present with the Lord and reunited with her husband, the late John Laurie Dale, Jr.
Olivia was born on May 18, 1933 in Pine Apple, Alabama to the late William Edward Stone and Marie Steen Stone. She was a graduate of Moore Academy in Pine Apple, Alabama and attended the University of Montevallo, graduating with a degree in education, which she used to serve as a third-grade teacher in Greenville, Alabama. Following her teaching career, she was the devoted postmaster in Oak Hill, Alabama for nearly three decades.
After retirement, Olivia devoted her time to the love and care of her grandchildren, along with serving her church, Bethel ARP, as a beloved children’s Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Laurie Dale, Jr.; daughter in-law, Lynn Moore Dale; brothers, William Edward (Marileta) Stone Jr., Alvin Gordon Stone, Melvyn Douglas Stone; and brother in-law, Harry Alanson Anderson.
She is survived by her son, John L. Dale III; daughter, Marie Dale (Mark) Olinger; grandchildren, Laurie Dale (Ryan) Pearson, Olivia Moore Dale, Robert Dale (Sydney) Olinger, John Alan (Katy) Olinger; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Olivia and Mark Miller Olinger, Dale Kennington and Georgia Marie Olinger, and John Patrick Pearson; sister, Marcella Stone Anderson; and sisters in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Carter Stone and Glenda Camp Stone.
Funeral services will take place on Sunday, June 22 at Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm followed by the funeral at 2pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Dale Olinger, John Alan Olinger, Christopher Carter Stone, Alvin Gordon Stone, Jr., Dr. Jack Walter Anderson, and Edward Stone Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Howard F. Williamson, Jr.; John D. Williamson; the Elders of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church: Curtis A. Mitchell; F. David Fuller; John C. Lamkin; Samuel J. Henderson; Erskine D. Kennedy, Jr.; and the Deacons of Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church: Wesley S. Kennedy; Adam L. Dailey; F. Scott Miller.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bethel ARP Church Memorial Fund, the American Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
