Patricia Ann Hugghins Morrow, 88, passed away at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala, on Friday, September 5, 2025, with her son John and his wife Laura by her side.
Patricia Ann Hugghins was born in Georgiana, Alabama, on February 4, 1937, to Henry Terry and Willie Alva Sullivan Hugghins as the second of five children. She married Bob Ed Morrow in Selma, Alabama, in 1968. They had one son, John Hugghins Morrow.
Patricia graduated from Georgiana High School in 1955 and went on to earn a Bachelors in Library Science from the University of Alabama, a Master of Library Science from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, a Graduate Certification for Medical School Libraries from Emory University, and later a Special Education Master of Arts with a Depth Study in Learning Disabilities from the University of Alabama.
Patricia Morrow was an early pioneer and advocate for individuals with disabilities in Alabama. She met with decision-makers and politicians and lobbied locally and nationally for the rights of children and adults with disabilities. She mentored countless families, friends, students, colleagues and passersby with the knowledge gained from her own life experience. Patricia conveyed her expertise with wit, grace, compassion and practical knowledge for the federal statutes, case laws, and institutional policies that both failed and fostered the rights of individuals with disabilities while never forsaking her singular pursuit for the rights of all individuals, regardless of ability.
During her career in education, Patricia served as a librarian at Selma High School before moving on to the medical library at the University of Kentucky’s Chandler’s College of Medicine from 1964-196. Later, after receiving her second master’s degree, she worked as Director of Disability Services at Faulkner University from 1994-2016. She served on the Board of Directors and as president of the Alabama Association of Higher Education and Disability and on the University of Alabama’s Advisory Committee for the Southeastern Conference and Symposium on ADHD from 2006-2016. In earlier years she served as a higher education representative on the Alabama Commission on Higher Education’s Committee on Vocational Rehabilitation Assistance. She became a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of Alabama in the mid 1980’s, serving as president for her local and state affiliates.
Patricia Ann Hugghins Morrow was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob Ed Morrow, her brother, Harold Terry Hugghins, and stepson, Robert Edward Morrow. She is survived by her son, John Hugghins Morrow (Laura); brother William Sullivan Hugghins (Melanie), sisters Marion Hugghins Hunter (Gilbert) and Linda Hugghins Bolling; nephew Gilbert R. Hunter, Jr.; nieces Anne Sullivan Hunter and Jessica Erin Bolling; stepdaughter Nancy Morrow Harris, grandchildren Taran Tucker (Randy), and Tret Johnson; stepdaughter-in-law Marolyn Morrow, and her son Robbie Morrow.
