It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rev. Dr. Robert Daniel Nixon, age 69, on Wednesday, May 27, 2020.
Following in the footsteps of his maternal grandfather Howard Alston Jones, “Brother Dan” began his Theological Education and Ministry in 1974 after serving in the US Army in Vietnam. As did his grandfather, Dan Preached the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Alabama, the panhandle of Florida and Georgia. We have Joy in our hearts to know that Dan is with him now. May he Rest in Peace.
Dad loved children and he was great with them. He ADORED his grandchildren. He would spend hours telling me about how he'd play with them when they were little. One of Dad's favorite parts of his sermons was performing magic tricks for the children before they ran off to children's church. He would always make the magic trick he showed the kids tie into the sermon he had for the adults.
Dad could turn any moment into a reason to glorify God. He was enamored with learning. He was Doctor dad... but he never asked people to call him that. He always introduced himself as 'Brother' Dan. Not Doctor. Not Doctor the Reverend. Just 'Brother' Dan. He was very humble.
He loved listening to Lotti play at church. He sang along terribly, and loudly... and I could see her cringe every once in a while, but he didn't care how bad he sang as long as he could still hear her play. It was genuinely one of his greatest joys. He loved her more than he loved anyone.
He was preceded by his parents: Robert Earl Nixon and Florine Nixon; and sister: Susan Grace Nixon.

Nixon is survived by his wife: Lotti Nixon; brother: Earl “George” (Debbie) Nixon; sons: James McDaniel “Jim” Nixon, Robert Thoedore Luker III, and his daughter: Eliana, John Nicholaus Luker (Susan) and his children: Anna Raine and Benjamin Luker; sisters- in-law: Jennie Lee Britt; brothers-in-law: Anthony Patrick Aiello, John Roy Aiello, Paul Thomas(Suzie) Aiello, and his children: Julia Aiello, Paul David Aiello, and Anna Aiello.
