Roy Clark Barr

Roy Clark Barr passed away January 20, 2026 at the age of 74. He was born June 4, 1951 to the late Arthur Richmond "Buck" Barr and Marie L. Tyson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Barr; step-daughter, Ginger Terry; brother, Guy David Barr; sister, Sarah Marie Crosby and step-father, John Tyson.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Roy not only served his country with honor but also earned his GED while dedicated to his military service. His time in the Army instilled a strong sense of discipline and commitment that would carry forward into his life beyond the uniform.

For many years, Roy worked as a welder at Bush Hog in Selma, demonstrating not just his skill but his unwavering dedication to his craft. His work ethic was a reflection of the values instilled in him, blending creativity with precision, and he took great pride in each project he undertook.

Roy's vibrant spirit was never more alive than when he was following his passions. A devoted fan of Alabama football and Braves baseball, he was often seen proudly wearing his houndstooth Alabama hat, a symbol of his unwavering loyalty to his team. Those who gathered with him during games will remember the excitement in his voice as he cheered on his beloved teams.

Roy had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, finding solace and exhilaration in nature's embrace. His love for hunting was richly woven into the tapestry of his life; from deer and turkey to raccoons and dove, each expedition held a new adventure. The thrill he experienced while hunting was matched only by the peace he found during quiet moments by the Alabama River, fishing for anything that would take the bait. Many cherished memories were created alongside his good friend James Campbell, as they would set trot lines and share long nights filled with laughter and camaraderie, running up and down the river in search of the next catch.

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (PeeWee) Godwin and Christina Barr; son, Michael (Kimberly) Barr; sisters, Suzanne Kelly and Betty Jo Stone; grandchildren, Noel Woods, Melanie Farnham, Hannah Tatum, Mathew Pruitt, Michelle Johnson, Lindsay Barr, Hunter Barr and Bentley Smith and numerous nieces, nephews and step-siblings.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 26, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma with James Godwin officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. His burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Geneva Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Myrtlewood.

Pallbearers will be Mathew Pruitt, Mason Tatum, Jonta Woods, Tony Witcher, Jeffery Vinning and Russ Curenton. Honorary pallbearers will be Shaun Harris and Dewayne Mazingo.
