Shirley Suther Pugh passed away July 28, 2026 at the age of 84. She was born May 11, 1942 to the late Judd Willard Suther and Frances Johnson Suther. She was preceded in death by brother, John Richard Suther.
As a mother and “memaw,” she guided her children and grandchildren with a quiet strength, nurturing them with gentle hands and a compassionate heart. Her home was a place where laughter lingered and love was always abundant.
In her younger years, Shirley’s gifted hands created beauty and comfort—she delighted in sewing and making quilts, crafting treasures that spoke of her patience and creativity. Each stitch was infused with love, transforming simple fabric into pieces that would warm both bodies and hearts for generations.
For nineteen years, she devoted herself as a volunteer with the Auxiliary at Vaughn Regional Medical Center. Her service was not just a gift to the hospital but to countless individuals and families—bringing comfort, encouragement, and human connection to those in need. The impact of her dedicated volunteerism will be remembered and cherished by many.
Her faith was the guiding light of her life, grounding her actions in compassion and hope. As a longtime member of Summerfield Baptist Church, Shirley found deep fulfillment in singing in the choir, lifting her voice in worship and praise and while teaching the adult Ladies' Adult Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harry William Pugh; children, Denise Pugh Moore, Melissa "Missy" (Kyle) Lawrence and Wade (Rachael) Pugh; grandchildren, Bobby Ray Moore, Lee Harris, Dalton (Anna) Lawrence, Mary Frances Pugh, Harrison Pugh, Elizabeth Pugh and Elianna Pugh and great-grandchildren, Dylan McKenzie, Zane Moore, Braycen Harris, Korie Beth Harris and Coleman Lawrence and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Summerfield Baptist Church with Rev. Ryan Skeibe officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
