Timothy O. Burton passed away August 9, 2026 at the age of 61, surrounded by his family. He was born February 14, 1965 to the late Ray and Nell Burton.

For three decades, Tim served as the Maintenance Supervisor at Miller Lumber Company in Selma. His dedication to his work was marked by tireless effort and leadership. Tim reveled in the simple pleasures of life—especially the threads that wove his family together. He loved playing sports and devoted countless afternoons coaching his daughters’ volleyball and softball teams, celebrating their growth and coaching them.

Sunday traditions found him spiking volleys at the old cigar factory or later, at the Mott’s home, where friends and family gathered to play. Even as the years went by, Tim transitioned these traditions, trading volleyball for golf, ensuring time spent together remained cherished and uninterrupted.

Fishing trips to Dauphin Island became an annual family tradition, their anticipation growing each year as much for the stories swapped in the early dawn as for the fish caught out in the open water. He found equal joy as a player on the softball field—whether it was men's league or co-ed league, it didn’t matter. The game, the camaraderie, and the fellowship were what mattered most to him.

Tim’s love of working with his hands shone through in his woodworking. Family members across generations treasure the pieces he built—the kitchen cabinets in his own home, chests, cabinets and more - all beloved furniture now part of family memories, each item crafted with patience and pride. You would often find him in his shop, piddling with wood or tinkering with small engines.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Burton and brother-in-law, Jeff Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tammy Burton; daughters, Kasey (Derek) Lassitter, Jessica (Logan) Lovelady and Reagan Burton (Scott LaLone); hand-picked sister, Linda Darlene Collinsworth; hand-picked brother, David (Amy) Johnston; grandchildren, Liam Lovelady, Wren Lovelady, Reid Lassitter, Aidan Lovelady, Tripp LaLone and Cohen Lassitter; mother-in-law, Peggy Weeks; brother-in-law, Lee (Fran) Wilson; sister-in-law, Dusty (Chris) McLain and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Randolph. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Derek Lassitter, Logan Lovelady, Scott LaLone, Lee Wilson, David Johnston and Devin Collinsworth. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Freine, Don Smith, Neal Hollingshead and Donnie Veach.
