William Faile

April 8, 1942 — June 17, 2017

William Thomas (Billy) Faile of Selma, Alabama, was born April 8, 1942 to Willard Trice Faile and Verna Sherrer Faile. He lost his battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on June 17, 2017.

He attended A.G. Parrish High School in Selma and the University of West Alabama, formerly Livingston State College, where he earned a BS in 1964. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law and was admitted to the Alabama Bar Association in 1967. He was the youngest district attorney in the state of Alabama when he served as Dallas County’s District Attorney. He entered private practice in 1975 and he was renowned for his generosity and wise council. He had a passion for helping others. His love for life and infectious smile made a lasting impression on all that were honored to know him. His laughter could fill a room! He was devoted to The Lord, his family and his friends. He enjoyed photography, travel, and the University of Alabama football.

He married Laura McClain in 1989. Their son, Madison Dean Faile, was born in 1992.




He is survived by his son Madison Faile; sister, Jeanette Faile (M.A "Buddy")Hardin; niece, Tay (Jerry) Etheredge; nephew, Wes (Dianne) Hardin; niece, Tara (Chuck) Utsey, numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his former wife Laura McClain and his parents.

Visitation will be held in Selma on Friday, June 23 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the chapel of the funeral home at 2:15 p.m. with the Rev. Misty Barrett officiating. A private family burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Jerry Etheredge, Chuck Utsey, Wes Hardin, Chase Utsey, Hardin Utsey, and Holt Utsey.

Honorary Pallbearers will be M. A. "Buddy" Hardin, Johnny Jones, John Kelly III, Bobby Morrow (Hawkeye), Ed Greene, Charlie Sims, Alvin Benn, Billy Hackett, Joe Rollins, Rita Caver, Bill Kynard and members of the Dallas County Bar Association.

The family will accept flowers, or you may consider making memorial donations to your favorite charity.
