Bessie Lester Farris

September 17, 1920 ~ February 6, 2021 (age 100)

Obituary

Mrs. Bessie Mary Farris, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away on February 6, 2021 at the age of 100.

Bessie was born on September 17, 1920 in Summerfield, Alabama. Her parents, Judson & Beulah Lester.  Her three brothers, Charles, Thomas & Floyd Lester preceded her in death.  Her loving husband of Alex “Buck” Farris left her side in May of 2013.

Bessie is survived by her two children Alex “Chick” Farris III (Elizabeth) & Rita Wood (Ed).  As well as her Grandson Alex Farris IV and his wife Tyra, their children, Beatrice (9), Teagan (7) & Alex “Quint” Farris V (5).

Bessie was the quintessential southern mom! She raised her children with love, support and a firm hand when needed but never lost her grace, beauty & elegance.  She has been blessed with the opportunity to engage and love on her Great grandchildren while in good health.

After 66 years in Dallas County they moved to Hoover Alabama.  She attended Shades Crest Baptist Church for over 30 years and was dedicated to the women’s groups and her circle of close friends.

Bessie’s favorite thing to do was to cook for her family for gatherings!  To have the entire family over for everything from a fresh deer tenderloin delivered from her son’s hunting camp or making cakes & pies with her daughter Rita.  Family was the best part of Bessie’s life and she was a gift to everyone she met.

Bessie will be loved and missed by surviving family members and friend.

At Bessie’s request, no services will be held due to the Covid Pandemic. Graveside for the family will be Tuesday at 1 p.m.  Condolences may be sent to Alex Farris 2134 Woodledge Drive Birmingham Al 35226 or Rita Wood 1214 Buckhead Circle Vestavia Hills, Alabama 35216
