Obituary

Helen Gail Nichols passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Fairhope, Alabama.  She was 86 years old.  Helen was born on June 10, 1936, to the late Lee Andrew Dreher and Doris Faye Friday in Wilson, Louisiana.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Nichols.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Ephesus Baptist Church in Sprott, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. The service will be live streamed, online at www.WatchLawrence.live , via the funeral home’s Facebook page.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) McLaurin and Laurin (Shane) Friday; grandchildren, Amanda (Kendric) Hackler and Kyle (Ashley) McLaurin; great-grandchildren, Amelia, Jack and Clara; brother, Lawrence Lowrey (Marybeth) Dreher and sister Janice Dreher (Jerry) Caston.

She was a devoted homemaker all of her life.  Helen enjoyed sewing; making clothing and quilts for her daughters. She also enjoyed cooking and canning. Her beef stroganoff was the best you ever tasted, and she gave her recipe to countless fans. Helen dearly loved her Louisiana family and her Selma family members, too.

Helen taught Mission Friends and Girls in Action classes at the different Baptist churches that she was a member of and was passionate that her students learn about the missionary Lottie Moon, who literally gave her life to bring the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in China. Helen made Lottie Moon tea cookies with her students and with her daughters and enjoyed teaching children about the great love that Jesus has for us.

In lieu of flowers, a memory donation can be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
