On Sunday, December 6, 2020, James Tillman Jones, known as Jimmy, 73, was swallowed up by life and entered into the presence of Our Lord and Savior with his family by his side.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, Jack Jones and his mother, Carol Jones. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Charlotte, his two daughters, Roxanne Jones and Rebecca Jones , His grandson, Dennis Tillman Jones, His brother, Archbishop Charles Jones (Olivia), his sister Jackie Whiddon (Gary) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was a son, brother, uncle,  husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He might have had only two biological children but he was a father to many. The last few years Jimmy became known as “JJ” to his grandsons and he loved every moment he had with them. Jimmy loved big and all who knew him felt that love.

Jimmy coached football and softball for over 25 years at Morgan Academy. During that time he became a father figure and mentor to countless youth. Jimmy was affectionately known as Coach Jones to those  he had the pleasure of knowing and coaching over the years.  Jimmy loved to spend his Friday nights on the football field.

Jimmy was a lover of Christ and his life was lived to honor God. In all things Jimmy did he sought to honor God and lived his life as an example of a man running after God’s heart. Jimmy was a member of The Cathedral of Christ the King where he was a leader on the Rectors Council for over 30 years.  Over the years Jimmy sat on numerous boards. Most recently, he was inducted into the Alabama Tire Dealers Hall of Fame.

A prayer vigil will be held on Tuesday December 8th at The Cathedral of Christ the King from 6 pm to 8 pm. This will be a social distancing service and all are welcome. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday December 9th at The Cathedral of Christ the King for immediate family. A graveside service, for anyone who would like to come, will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery at 12:45 pm.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Tellier, Andrew Slagel, John Slagel, Jim Willard, Rhett Marques and Michael Mote. Honorary Pallbearers will be all the men Coach Jones had the honor and pleasure of coaching over the years. In leu of flowers donations may be made to Cathedral Academy in honor of Jimmy. Checks may be sent to PO Box 661 Selma, Al 36702.
