Joan Looney

May 29, 1948 — February 11, 2021

Joan Gibian Looney passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021, surrounded by her children. She was born in Selma on May 29, 1948, to Richard and Betty Rose Leva Gibian, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Rick (Lisa) Looney, her daughter Kelly (Todd) Dawson, and her son Jackson (Nicole) Looney, her grandchildren: Lev and Ari Looney, Caroline, Owen and Lilly Dawson, and Rivers Looney, her sister Gail Gibian and her brother Richard (Kathy) Gibian, and their three children Emily, Oliva, and James. She is also survived by many loved ones, numerous close cousins, and her longtime friends.  Joanie, as her friends affectionately called her, wanted to be remembered for her love of family, faith, and friends.  She lived a fulfilled life and fought valiantly against cancer for the past few years.  She will leave this earth with a good name.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 10:00 at Live Oak Cemetery (Not New Live Oak). If you are unable to attend the service in person, the family invites you to join the live stream through Lawrence Brown Funeral Home’s live feed at http://watchlawrence.live or on their Facebook page.

Pallbearers will be Dan Hoke, Philip Johnson, Ronnie Leet, Ben Looney, Ed Livingston, Hart Sims, Wayne Vardaman, and Ed Williams.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Ehelert, Charles Pollack, and Charlie Sims.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Selma - Dallas County Public Library (1103 Selma Avenue, Selma, AL 36703) or Temple Mishkan Israel (PO Box 510, Selma, AL 36702).
