Julia Hughey

Julia Bennett Hughey, age 85, of Selma passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021. She was born August 9, 1935 to the late William G. Bennett and Emma B. Williams Bennett.

She was a former cashier at Winn-Dixie ‘till her retirement. In her retirement, she chose to work part time at the Little Friends School with the bed babies.

She was a loving wife, mother, “Granny or Beggan”, sister and friend to all she knew.

She is survived by her children, Anita Hughey, Rita (Danny) Jennings and Edward Hughey; grandchildren, Mallory Jennings (fiancé, Laura Nemser), Daniel (Kathryn) Jennings, Graham and Lily Hughey; siblings, Shirley (Robert) Stone, Bernice (Richard) Turner, Connie (Jackie) Phillips, Red Bennett, Johnny (Ann) Bennett and Billy (Dorothy) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Cordelia Hughey, Camille (Gary) Salter, Mavis Bennett; brothers-in-law, Gene Hisel and Howell Stone and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward C. Hughey; twin sister, Janet Stone; siblings, Edna Bennett Driver, Gene Bennett, James Leonard Bennett, Brenda Hisel, Sara Nell Redd, William Bennett, Franklin Bennett and Joe Bennett; mother and father-in-law, Marshall (Oda) Hughey and in-laws, Willard Hughey, Wilford (Vivian) Ivey and Mason Hughey.

Graveside services will be Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Bro. Randy DeBrabant officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Edward Hughey, Danny Jennings, Mallory Jennings, Daniel Jennings, Graham Hughey and Gary Salter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to WannaBe Rescued, P.O. Box 725, Selma, Alabama 36702 or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank her sitter, Hazel Rush and those at Cedar Hill and Selma Health and Rehab for their loving care.
