Lois Britton

July 16, 1929 — January 14, 2021

Lois Kirk Britton passed away January 14, 2021 at the age of 91. She was born July 16, 1929 to the late Joseph Walter Kirk and Amanda Melissa Morgan Kirk.

Graveside services will be Monday, January 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens with Bro. James Bozeman officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Britton will lie in state at the funeral home before the services.

“Mrs. B”, as she was lovingly dubbed by children over the years taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was a faithful member of Summerfield Baptist Church. She worked at the cigar factory in Selma for over 40 years. She was known all over Central Alabama for her jellies, jams, homemade candy and especially her Kudzu and Corncob Jelly and Peanut Butter Balls.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, John M. Britton, Jr. and siblings, Joseph Oliver Kirk, Robert “Shorty” Kirk, James B. Kirk, Agnes May Kirk, Annie Elizabeth Hare, William Roy Kirk, Leola Genelle Kirk, Douglas Earl Kirk and Mabel Florence Beck.

She is survived by her stepson, John M. Britton, III; sister, Lucille “Lucy-Red” Goodman; sisters-in-law, Hildredge Moseley, Lorene Britton and Jeanie Kirk; brother-in-law, Woodie Beck, Jr., numerous nieces and nephews and faithful friends, Sue Williams and Norma Jean Calvert.

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Nese Burton for her loving care and the nurses and staff of Park Place Nursing Home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Beck, Jeff Cogle, Jed Kirk, Doug Kirk, George Britton and Mike Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be J.L. Calvert, Bro. Tommy Fancher, Woodie Beck, Jack Godwin, Harry Pugh, Leon Smith and James Hatfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Summerfield Baptist Church; 72 Main Street, Valley Grande, Alabama 36701.
