Marion Sumerlin

August 3, 1928 — March 4, 2023

Marion Moore Sumerlin passed away March 4, 2023 at the age of 94. She had been a life-long resident of Burnsville and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She had many friends and family in the area as well as acquaintances in the Selma area.

She was born August 3, 1928 to the late Fannie N. Moore and John T. Moore, where she loved the rural life on the family farm. She later graduated from Dallas County High School in Plantersville and continued her studies with the Sacred Heart Secretarial School in Selma.

Through her work life she was part of the transition of George Corley Wallace State Community College, from William Rufus King State Vocational Technical School alongside Mr. Charles Byrd in 1973. She later became Business Manager of WCCS-Selma and retired in1988. Following her retirement, she became involved in another field of interest, genealogy. She and her sister, Jane compiled many records of the families in this area from the early 1800s to present day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Sumerlin and granddaughter, Rachael D. Sumerlin; brothers, Tyler Moore, Mack Moore and Franklin Moore.

She is survived by her children, Brenda S. (Philip B., III) Wood, Marvin McKay "Mackey" (Ann) Sumerlin and Patrick J. (Beth) Sumerlin; grandchildren, Natalie W. (Al) Griffin, Stephanie W. Motley, Philip (Astrid) Wood, IV, Justin (Rachael) Sumerlin, Cody R. (Madison) Sumerlin and Zachary (Mandy) Sumerlin; great-grandchildren, John Bishop Griffin, Philip (Ashley) Wood, V, Kennedy Wood, Damon Griffin, Kristen Griffin, Gabe Griffin, Haley Hicks, Blaire Motley, Grace Sumerlin and Grant Sumerlin; great-great-grandchildren, Hayden Grace Cobb, Oakley R. Wood, Hallie K. Wood and Harper Hicks; sister, Jane M. Klinner and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ed Eaton officiating. The service will be live streamed online at http://www.watchlawrence.live , via the funeral home's Facebook page. A private burial will take place at New Live Oak Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Sumerlin, Cody Sumerlin, Zachery Sumerlin, Philip Wood, IV, Larry Caver and Johnny Klinner.

The family will accept flowers or you may consider making memorial donations to Shady Grove Baptist Church; 234 County Road 83, Selma, Alabama 36703.
