Marshall Keith, Jr.

Marshall Alston Keith, Jr. passed away on peacefully at his home on March 1, 2022 at the age of 79. He was born in Selma, Alabama on September 27, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his father, M. Alston Keith, Sr.; mother, Mary Minge Keith and brother-in-law, Edward Wall.

He is survived by his children, M. Alston (Ellen) Keith, III of Birmingham, Alabama, Alicia Keith (Randall) Beers of Tyler, Alabama; grandchildren, William Martin Keith, Charles Alston Keith and Robert Cobb Beers, Randall Clay Beers, Jr., Frances McMillan Beers and Martha Ann Beers; sisters, Margaret Keith of Paris, France and Cordette Keith Wall of Birmingham, Alabama.

Alston grew up in Selma, Alabama where he was a graduate of A.G. Parish High School. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America earning Eagle Scout rank. He attended First Presbyterian Church, where he was very involved with the youth program and later becoming a deacon. Later in life, he attended Blue Jean Church of Selma.

He was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Beta Fraternity. He earned a Jurist Doctorate from Cumberland Law School. He returned home to Selma, Alabama to practice law with his father in the late 60s. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Selma, the Knights of Revelry and was a member of the Alabama Bar Association. He was proud to support the Selma Arts Revive, the University of Alabama Alumni Association, Cumberland Law School Alumni and was the chairman of the city school system drive for the March of Dimes Campaign in 1971.

For several years he served as the chairman of the Dallas County Democratic Party, supported the State of Alabama Democratic Party and served as a delegate of the Democratic National Convention for District 19. He proudly served for over 30 years as the city prosecutor for the City of Selma. He has a passion for distance running, completing the Boston Marathon, New York City Marathon and Honolulu Marathon. To celebrate his 40th, 50th and 60th birthday, he successfully ran his age.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Burton, Bob Armstrong and Dan Taylor officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. A private family burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. The service will be live streamed online at www.WatchLawrence.com, via the funeral home’s Facebook page.

Pallbearers will be Andy Allen, Phillip Wheat, Harry Hooper, Ollie Sandlin, Perry Woodruff, John Furniss, John Sabella, Holland Powell and Danny Clower.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Blue Jean Church; 1209 Selma Ave, Selma, AL 36701.

As a beloved friend to many, he will be greatly missed.
